Classroom Happenings for December This month we are going to start a unit on
Buildings. Our study includes five investigations aimed at exploring buildings.
The investigations offer children an opportunity to learn more about the
characteristics and features of buildings, the people who build them, and the
role buildings play in our communities. Each investigation explores concepts in
science and social studies and strengthens children’s skills in literacy, math,
technology, and the arts.
For the November and December Family Project, we are asking you (as a family) to create any type of winter scene. You can use the attached materials however you want. Each project is different and unique.
Each week in class the children will be introduced to a new letter. The children will work on writing the uppercase and lowercase letter, they will practice making the sound the letter makes, and begin to identify words that start with that letter. Each week we will send home a phonics sheet for you to work on with your child. Please send the sheet back to school when you are done.
The letters we are working on in December are Yy, Kk, and Tt.
Each month in class the children will be introduced to new numbers. The children will count to those numbers, write those numbers, and produce activities that focus on those numbers.
For the month of December we are going to focus on the numbers 5, 3, 6, and 4. Thank you for the families who completed the Family project. They are hanging up in the hallway and look beautiful. If you still want to bring them in there is time.
